The Enthusiast's Magazine of Ferrari

Cavallino is the journal of Ferrari history, covering Ferraris old and new for over 40 years. It's the most reliable, most trusted source of everything Ferrari. Ever since the first issue in 1978 Cavallino presents extensive stories and detailed information from knowledgeable experts and enthusiasts who share the passion for Ferrari. All Ferraris are unique, and each one has its own chassis serial number. This is how the Ferrari world keeps track of all the great cars. Cavallino is the only publication that prints the serial number for every Ferrari mentioned in our stories, articles, and race results.

Ferrari 360 Modena convertible

Carel Ruigrok

There is a 360 Modena convertible in the works, everyone agrees on that, but when will it be seen? There were plans to continue the popular F355 Spider, alongside the 360 Modena berlinetta, but this has been cancelled. Seen on the streets of Maranello was this 360 with a decidedly unusual top, a metal canopy covering ... what?

Held near Detroit, this low pressure event brings out a handful of quality Ferraris, even though the show is geared to displaying American iron, old and new. There are two classes in which Ferraris can compete, sports cars and competition.
20NotizieDon't cry

Lodewyk Alexander

Laws in nearly all countries require new models to be crash tested - front, rear, sides, and rollover - and Ferrari is not excepted. And the mules can't ever be fixed up and sold. It's hard to see these 348s and 456s sitting forever so forlom and forgotten, but what really hurts is that F50 in their midst!

We've always heared stories about Ferrari winning the TT, and seen photos of the sports and GT cars gliding though the Irish and English countryside. But what exactly was the Tourist Trophy?

Ferrari was not content with building the best GT berlinetta on the road and track; they designed an even better car - faster, lighter, more competitive - the SEFAC Hot Rod. We present a look at these rare machines, and one chassis in particular.

We've covered these cars many times in Cavallino, but never had the chance to drive one in captivity and report back. Now we've gotten a hold of a good chassis, and found some open road to travel. The euphoria is real indeed.

At the recent Ferrari Racing Days at the Nürburgring Ferrari unveiled the first Challenge car based on the 360 Modena berlinetta. While the engine, chassis, body and suspension remain mostly stock, there are enough changes made for racing to seperate this model from the basic 360.

It was a crowded three days, but no one complained, since there was non-stop Ferrari activity over July 2, 3 and 4, including the Shell Historic Challenge, the F355 Challenge, the F1 cars on demonstration runs, the introduction of the 360 Modena Challenge car, the German Ferrari Importer display, ther German Ferrari Club functions, and a special few laps by Michael Schumacher in his current Grand Prix car.

This was a Class C race (disc brakes) so there weren't many Maseratis that could take part, and it was a Ferrari romp. There was some excellent racing amond the different types, GT Ferraris and sports prototypes, and the results were somewhat predictable.

Fields have been varied so far, mainly because of the great distances in America between races (remember, it's only a day's drive from Monza to the Nürburgring to Spa to Paul Ricard to Silverstone, etc., whereas it's a full week to truck a car from coast to coast), but the line up at Lime Rock in June was excellent, with a good sampling of vintage Ferraris.

With its new long tail bodywork, the JB Giesse team F333 SP, s/n 030, was faster, but not as fast as the newer factory cars from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, etc. Chassis development and/or a larger engine will be needed to compete in the future at Le Mans.
